Founded in 1847, Xavier High School is a Catholic Jesuit college preparatory day school in New York City serving approximately 700 to 1,000 young men. The school enrolls intelligent, motivated students of diverse backgrounds and means, all preparing for college and lives of civic contribution. Its Jesuit identity—rooted in the principle of *cura personalis*, or care for the whole person—shapes how faculty teach, mentor, and lead.

Teaching here is relational work. You teach a student, not just a subject. Faculty combine rigorous academics with mentorship that extends beyond the classroom. Many advise clubs, lead retreats, or serve as class moderators. This embedded engagement is core to Jesuit education and distinguishes the role from teaching at secular independent schools.

The curriculum spans English, mathematics, sciences, history, and modern languages—French, Italian, Latin, and Spanish—plus arts and athletics. Students encounter a demanding, college-focused program where teachers are expected to model the school's values: acting justly, pursuing excellence, and deepening relationships with God and with others.

Xavier hires faculty and staff year-round across subject areas and support functions, with the largest hiring surge before each academic year. The school seeks educators comfortable with the mentorship dimension of Jesuit education and ready to invest in student development as seriously as in classroom instruction.

For teachers drawn to rigorous academics, Catholic values, and a relational teaching culture in Manhattan, Xavier offers purposeful work in an institution with 175 years of continuity.
