Hopkins School is a coeducational day school of 724 students in grades 7 through 12. The campus covers 108 acres on a hill overlooking New Haven, Connecticut. Hopkins is one of the oldest secondary schools in the United States, and it operates today as an independent, non-sectarian community drawing families from across south-central Connecticut.

Teaching here offers the intellectual pull of a selective school without the residential load of a boarding job. Faculty teach their classes, advise students, and usually take on a co-curricular role. Then they go home. For teachers who want serious academic work and normal evenings, that trade-off matters.

The language program is unusually wide for this size. Hopkins School offers Mandarin, French, Italian, Latin, and Spanish, which hints at the depth expected in other departments too. Class sections stay small, and teachers have real room to shape their courses in humanities, STEM, and the arts.

The finances back that up. Hopkins holds about $240 million in net assets on $42 million in yearly revenue, and fundraising rose roughly 74% last year. For faculty, that translates into competitive day-school salaries, standard health and retirement benefits, and steady funding for classroom resources — useful context in a high-cost region where housing is on you, not the school.

Open roles tend to span English, math, science, languages, arts, coaching, admissions, advancement, and administration. For teachers drawn to New Haven and a strong academic culture, Hopkins School rewards a close look.
